Tonka beans are the seeds of the flowering tree Dipteryx odorata , native to South America.
 Tonka bean is an intensely aromatic spice with a flavor reminiscent of vanilla, almonds and/or marzipan, cinnamon, and cloves.
 Tonka beans can be used in creamy caramel desserts, macaroons, shortbread cookies, ice cream, and chocolate making.
 To use, simply grate the beans using a nutmeg grater.
