Thyme is an evergreen semi-dwarf shrub that has come to us from the Mediterranean. Its active substances have an antiseptic effect and promote the secretion of bronchial glands. Extracts of tea are made from the infusion, thus obtaining essential oil and thymol. It is used orally as an expectorant against cough, bronchitis, stomach catarrh and to stimulate bile secretion. Used externally for rinsing the mouth and throat.
It is used in pickling cucumbers. It tastes very good in olive oil in a pan or oven baked together with various vegetables. When cooking, thyme can be added at the beginning of cooking.
