Marjoram
In ancient Egypt and Greece, marjoram was used to flavor wines, vegetables, fish and meat dishes. In the Roman Empire, marjoram was cultivated both as a herb and as a medicinal plant. Hippocrates has included marjoram in his prescriptions. The ancient Greeks and Romans adorned the heads of the newlyweds with marjoram garlands, which symbolized love, honor and happiness. The Egyptians, on the other hand, used marjoram to invoke the favor of the gods during embalming.
