Spanish hot paprika powder – between mild and spicy
Our Spanish hot paprika powder is the perfect balance between mild and spicy – not as hot as chili, but definitely spicier than regular paprika powder.
It is made from medium-hot red chili peppers, a variety of varieties of the paprika family, selected for their rich flavor and pleasant pungency. This type of paprika powder is traditionally used in Spanish and Hungarian cuisines, and these countries still have the largest areas of paprika cultivation today.
Hungary grows the perfect peppers for this type of blend – they are aromatic, juicy and full of flavour. These qualities make hot paprika powder a great choice for a wide range of dishes – from stews, soups, rice dishes, to marinades and grilled vegetables.
Tip: Store paprika powder in a dark place – protecting it from the sun will preserve both its bright color and full flavor.
RECIPE
🥘 Spanish-style chicken stew with hot paprika powder
Ingredients (for 4 servings):
600 g chicken thighs or breasts, cut into pieces
1 red onion
2 garlic cloves
1 red bell pepper (vegetable), sliced
400 g canned tomatoes (diced)
1 tsp hot paprika powder
1 tsp smoked paprika powder (optional)
1/2 tsp dried oregano
salt and pepper to taste
2 tbsp olive oil
100 ml chicken broth or water
parsley for serving
Preparation:
Heat olive oil in a pan and fry the chicken pieces until golden brown on both sides. Remove from the pan.
In the same pan, fry the onions and garlic until translucent.
Add paprika powder, oregano and a little salt. Stir and cook for ~1 minute to "open up" the spices.
Add the chopped tomatoes, peppers, broth, and fried chicken. Cover and simmer over low heat for 20–30 minutes, until the chicken is tender and the sauce thickens.
Serve with rice, toasted bread or potatoes. Sprinkle with fresh parsley.
This recipe is a great way to let the spicy paprika powder stand out – it brings warmth, color, and character to the dish without making it too spicy.
